Inquiry about the SRM

Revenue Quebec will be introducing a new law to fight tax evasion in the restaurant sector. The new law, spearheaded by an educational campaign called "Check Please!" requires restaurants to provide a bill to its customers at all times, thus "Mandatory Billing”.

In order to enforce this new law, Revenue Quebec will require each restaurant (as well as cafeteria, snack bar, etc..) to install a Sales Recording Module (SRM – or MEV in French) for recording sales. The SRM (or MEV), which will be connected to the restaurant’s Point of Sale (POS) system as well as its receipt printers, will record and keep, in an encrypted fashion, all transactions made in the restaurant. Officers from Revenue Quebec can then verify this information locally or remotely.
